Pizzi’s tactical changes secure Kuwait vital draw

Ardhiyah: Kuwait head coach Juan Antonio Pizzi praised his team’s second-half performance after their come from behind 1-1 draw with Jordan in their AFC Asian Qualifiers™ – Road to 26 Group B clash on Tuesday.

Kuwait found themselves trailing to Yazan Al Naimat’s curling effort, with Pizzi making key substitutions after the break which he said improved his team’s control of the game.

Group B: Kuwait 1-1 Jordan

Ardhiyah: Kuwait came from behind to force a 1-1 draw against Jordan in their AFC Asian Qualifiers™ - Road to 26 Group B encounter on Tuesday.

Yazan Al Naimat had put Jordan ahead in the first half but Mohammad Daham came to Kuwait’s rescue with a stunning strike from distance to take home a share of the spoils, with Jordan moving to nine points and Kuwait five adrift. 

Korea Republic lead the Group B standings with 14 points with Iraq three behind in second.

Preview - Group B: Kuwait v Jordan

Ardhiyah: Jordan will aim to maintain their grip on second spot in Group B with victory against Kuwait in their AFC Asian Qualifiers™ - Road to 26 clash on Tuesday.

On eight points, Jordan are ahead of Iraq on goal difference after the two sides played to a 0-0 draw last Thursday, while Kuwait are fifth following their 3-1 defeat to Korea Republic.

Korea Republic’s Hong remains focused on the prize

Ardhiyah: Head coach Hong Myung-bo reiterated his determination to secure FIFA World Cup 2026 qualification after Korea Republic’s 3-1 win over Kuwait in their AFC Asian Qualifiers™ - Road to 26 Group B clash on Thursday.

Hong’s charges, buoyed by the return of captain Son Heung-min, produced a dominant display to move to 13 points - five clear of Jordan and Iraq at the midway stage of the AFC Asian Qualifiers.

Group B: Kuwait 1-3 Korea Republic

Ardhiyah: Korea Republic edged closer to the FIFA World Cup 2026 after defeating Kuwait 3-1 in their AFC Asian Qualifiers™ - Road to 26 Group B tie at the Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium on Thursday.

Oh Se-hun and Son Heung-min, who scored his 50th international goal, gave Korea Republic a comfortable lead going into the break. 

An excellent Mohammad Daham effort reduced the deficit in the second half but Bae Jun-ho netted to calm his team’s nerves as Hong Myung-bo’s side moved to 13 points at the midway stage of the AFC Asian Qualifiers.

With just three points and sitting fifth in the standings, Kuwait can’t afford to drop points even though they face a Korea Republic side who are well placed to qualify for an 11th consecutive appearance at the FIFA World Cup.

Kuwait City: Shabab Al Ahli Dubai fought back to salvage a crucial point following a 3-3 draw with Kuwait SC in their AFC Champions League Two 2024/24 Group D tie on Wednesday.

The stalemate took the UAE side to seven points, two behind pacesetters Al Hussein SC of Jordan but three ahead of third-placed PFC Nasaf, with only the top two teams to advance to the knockout stage. Kuwait SC moved up to two points.

West Asia Wrap: Riyadh derby ends in stalemate; Al Duhail in six-star show

Riyadh: Al Hilal SFC came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with Al Nassr Club in the Saudi Pro League as their lead was reduced to one point.

Al Duhail SC cruised to a 6-2 win over Al Shamal while there were also matches in Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Syria and the United Arab Emirates.

Group B: Arkadag, Al Arabi advance

Kuwait CIty: Kuwait’s Al Arabi SC defeated FC Arkadag 3-2 in Group B of the AFC Challenge League™ 2024/25 on Friday with both teams advancing to the quarter-finals.

The two, together with FC Abdysh-Ata of Kyrgyz Republic, finished on six points but Turkmenistan's Arkadag topped the group on goal difference with Al Arabi second, with the Kuwaiti side going through as the best runners-up from the three West Zone groups.

Arkadag will face India's East Bengal in the quarter-finals while Al Arabi will take on Oman's Al Seeb Club.
