Group A: Qatar 3-2 Uzbekistan

Doha: Lucas Mendes scored deep into injury time as Qatar secured a last-gasp 3-2 win over Uzbekistan in Doha on Thursday to revitalise their challenge in Group A of the AFC Asian Qualifiers™ – Road to 26 for a place at the FIFA World Cup Finals.

Mendes struck with 12 added minutes on the clock after Abbosbek Fayzullaev looked to have earned the visitors a point with a pair of headers that had cancelled out Almoez Ali’s first half brace for Tintin Marquez’s side.

The result moves Qatar up to seven points from five matches and to within three of Uzbekistan, who remain in second place in the group but are now three behind the Islamic Republic of Iran following their 3-2 win over DPR Korea earlier in the day.

Tashkent: Al Rayyan SC finally secured their first AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 victory following a 1-0 win over Pakhtakor on Tuesday with head coach Younes Ali highlighting his side’s resilience for the triumph.

Having weathered heavy pressure in the first half, Ali oversaw a reversal in the second half with Hazem Shehata bagging the winner in the 51st minute to end Al Rayyan’s three-match losing run and revive their progression chances as the Qatari side moved into the knockout stage spots with four matches to go.

Tashkent: Qatar’s Al Rayyan claimed their first win in the AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 on Tuesday when Hazem Shehata’s fortunate strike from distance was the only goal of the game at the JAR Stadium in Tashkent to earn Younes Ali’s side a 1-0 win over Pakhtakor.

The victory, which came after the defender beat Vladimir Nazarov with a miss-hit punt forward in the 51st minute, earns Al Rayyan their first points of the campaign and moves the Qatar Stars League side off the bottom of the standings in the league phase.

Pakhtakor, meanwhile, remain on two points after four games and are still waiting for their first win in the competition as the club from Tashkent slipped out of the top eight places in the table that guarantee progress to March’s knockout rounds.

Dubai: They had to fight back to get a share of the points but head coach Felix Sanchez was pleased with the final outcome as Al Sadd SC remained on course for a spot in the knockout stage of the AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 after a 1-1 draw with Al Wasl on Monday.

Romain Saiss equalised for Qatar's Al Sadd in the 61st minute after Alexis Perez had put Al Wasl ahead in the first half, with the UAE side then having to endure the final minutes with a man down after Soufiane Bouftini was sent off.

Dubai: Al Gharafa missed a string of late chances as the Qatar Stars League side shared a 1-1 draw with Persepolis in Dubai’s Al Maktoum Stadium in the league phase of the AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 on Monday.

Persepolis’ Farshad Faraji had put his side in front in the 53rd minute but substitute Ahmed Al Ganehi levelled just three minutes later before the visitors squandered a series of opportunities to take all three points.

The result moves Al Gharafa onto four points from their first four games while Persepolis continue to look for their first win with Juan Carlos Fernandez’s side on two points at the halfway stage.

Dubai: Ten-man Al Wasl of the United Arab Emirates held on to claim a point on Monday in the league phase of the AFC Champions League Elite™ 2024/25 as Milos Milojevic’s side drew 1-1 with Qatar’s Al Sadd SC at Dubai’s Zabeel Stadium.

Soufiane Bouftini was sent off with seven minutes remaining of regulation time to leave his side to hang on after Al Sadd’s Romain Saiss had cancelled out Alexis Perez’s 29th minute opener for the home side.

The result means Al Sadd remain unbeaten as the league phase reaches the halfway point with Felix Sanchez’s side moving onto eight points from four games while Al Wasl are a further point behind.
