Kuala Lumpur: Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) President, extended his best wishes to His Majesty Al Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah on his coronation as the 16th King of Malaysia on Tuesday.
The AFC President also wished His Majesty a happy 60th birthday which auspiciously falls on the same day as his coronation as the new King of Malaysia.
Shaikh Salman said: “The whole Asian football family joins me in sending their congratulations on this momentous occasion. We are confident that with your leadership and prudence you will guide Malaysia and its people wisely and will make a lasting impact on its history.
“I have no doubt that Your Majesty will provide valuable advice and guidance to all segments of the Malaysian society and will lay the groundwork for other leaders - particularly in sports - to follow in your footsteps across the world.
“Please also accept our heartfelt wishes for a very happy 60th birthday. We wish you the best of health, happiness and continued success on this joyous occasion.”
His Majesty Al Sultan Abdullah is known for his passion and leadership in football where he was a former vice-president of the AFC from 2002 to 2015 and has held many other positions in the AFC, including Chairman of the Organising Committee for the AFC Asian Cup 2015 and Chairman of the AFC Development Committee.
He served on the FIFA Council from 2015 to 2019 and chaired the AFC Governance Task Force which was responsible for delivering important reforms to help the AFC live up to its Vision and Mission.
