In the men's competion, 16-time champions Thailand were drawn in Group B with Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Singapore and Brunei Darussalam. Malaysia, who have won six SEA Games titles and were runners-up in 2017, were drawn in Group A with Philippines, five-time winners Myanmar, Cambodia and Timor Leste.
