Muscat: Legendary Oman goalkeeper Ali Al Habsi announced his retirement from international football on Saturday, having made his national team debut more than 18 years ago.
The 38-year-old Al Habsi is considered one Asia's best goalkeepers and is the only Omani to have played club football in England and Norway.
After starting his football career with home town club Al Mudhaibi in 1998, Al Habsi made several appearances for Al Nasr before making a bold move to join Norwegian outfit Lyn.

Muscat: Oman Football Association (OFA) has terminated the contract of Erwin Koeman as head coach following the performance of the national team at the recent 2019 Gulf Cup.
Oman, the defending champions, did not advance past the group stage in Doha following a 3-1 defeat to Saudi Arabia in their final Group B match, ending their campaign on four points after defeating Kuwait 2-1 and drawing 0-0 with eventual champions Bahrain.

Muscat: Oman edged India 1-0 on Tuesday to stay in sight of Qatar in Group E of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.
The match was a cagey affair with Muhsen Saleh Al Ghassani's 33rd minute strike securing the points for Oman at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex.
The win took Oman to 12 points, one behind Qatar while the defeat meant India still await their first victory of the Asian Qualifiers, having drawn three and lost two. Qatar edged Afghanistan 1-0 in the other Group E tie on Tuesday.

Muscat: A sparkling second-half display gave Oman a 4-1 win over Bangladesh in Group E of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers on Thursday.
Oman were left frustrated in the opening 45 minutes by a determined Bangladesh at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex. However the home side returned with four goals after the break to power past Jamie Day’s charges.
Oman moved within a point behind Qatar, who will be in action against Afghanistan next Tuesday and lead the standings with 10 points.

Al Wakrah: Qatar held off a determined Oman to stay unbeaten in the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023, registering a 2-1 win at Al Janoub Stadium on Tuesday.
Almoez Ali sealed the win with a brilliant 72nd-minute strike, restoring Qatari’s lead after a memorable Al-Mandhar Al Alawi goal cancelled out Akram Afif’s early opener in a see-sawing and entertaining encounter.
Qatar, playing for a place in the 2023 Asian Cup with FIFA World Cup hosting rights secured, extended their Group E tally to 10 points after four matches, while Oman suffered their first defeat to remain four points behind with a game in hand.

Muscat: Oman added yet more momentum to their FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 Asian Qualifiers campaign on Tuesday after a 3-0 defeat of Afghanistan saw them maintain their challenge towards the top of the Group E standings.
Abdulaziz Al Muqbali scored twice and Mohsin Al Ghassani converted from the spot for Oman as Erwin Koeman’s charges made it two wins from two on a night when, after initially failing to find their rhythm, they emerged worthy winners.
Following on from their 2-1 win against India on Matchday One, the success leaves Oman occupying second place in the standings, one point behind group leaders Qatar who claimed a 2-0 victory away in Bangladesh earlier in the day.

Guwahati: Oman came from a goal down to beat India 2-1 in their opening Asian Qualifiers Group E tie for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023 on Thursday.
Sunil Chhetri had given India a first half lead but the young Rabia Alawi Al Mandhar turned out to be the hero as he scored twice to give Oman the three points.
