September kick off for new Lebanese season

Beirut: Lebanese Football Association (LFA) announced on Monday that the new season of the Lebanese Football League will kick off in September, just 10 days after announcing the termination of the 2019-2020 season.

The LFA said in a press release that the top flight will start on September 18 while there will be a preparatory competition for the first division clubs on July 29.

Pak Doo-ik scored what remains one of the FIFA World Cup's most famous goals, but it was team effort which took DPR Korea through to the last eight where they again amazed before losing 5-3 to a Eusébio-inspired Portugal.

Japan's Hasebe 'proud' after setting Asian Bundesliga games record

Berlin: Former Japan captain Makoto Hasebe said he was "proud" after setting the record for most Bundesliga appearances by an Asian player.

Centre-back Hasebe, 36, played the full 90 minutes in Eintracht Frankfurt's 2-0 loss to Mainz on Saturday in what was his 309th German top-flight match to leapfrog ex-Korea Republic forward Cha Bum-kun.

Iran Pro League return delayed by a week

Tehran: The long-awaited return of Islamic Republic of Iran’s top domestic football division, the Pro League, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, June 24.

Announced on Sunday, the new date represents a six-day delay from the June 18 return which had been announced previously.

According to a statement on the league’s official website, league boss Haidar Baharvand contacted all participating clubs to advise them of the new development, which is aimed at giving players more preparation time.
